Aston Villa’s slim hopes of winning the Premier League took a hit midweek as they crashed to defeat at home to Newcastle United. They dropped out of the top four with what was their first home loss of the season.
Sheffield United remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League ladder. They are two points behind Burnley in 19th and a massive nine points away from safety. Victory against a hurt Villa side would give them a glimmer of hope of avoiding the drop.
Even before a ball was kicked in the Premier League this season, Sheffield United were among the heavy favourites to go straight back down to the Championship.
At this moment in time, it looks like they are destined for relegation. The Blades have won just two league matches all season. Their current form has seen them lose three of their last five matches with the other two ending in draws.
United did record a 4-0 win in the FA Cup over Gillingham, but they have not picked up maximum points in the Premier League since they defeated Brentford in December.
Blades boss Chris Wilder could hand a debut to Everton defender Mason Holgate who cut short his loan spell at Southampton to move to South Yorkshire on loan until the end of the season.
Rhian Brewster missed the game through suspension following his red card against West Ham United, while Ben Brereton Diaz is a major injury doubt after pulling up with a hamstring problem in their loss at Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
Not many would have predicted Aston Villa to be fighting for Champions League football when the season started last August, but they are up there contending.
Villa lost at Villa Park for the first time this season on Tuesday against Newcastle United which allowed Tottenham Hotspur to leapfrog them into the fourth and final Champions League place.
Jhon Duran, Tyrone Mings, Lucas Digne and Emiliano Buendia still remain injury doubts for Villa.
Aston Villa have the upper hand over Sheffield United in their encounters over the years. The Midlands side have won 54 of their 106 meetings with the Blades being victorious 30 times.
These two recently played out a 1-1 draw at Villa Park before Christmas, while the Blades have picked up wins in three of their last seven matches against Villa with Unai Emery’s side winning just one.
United won the last meeting at Bramall Lane in March 2021, while Villa have not won in South Yorkshire since a 1-0 win back in 2018 when they were both in the Championship.
Sheffield United entertain Aston Villa at Bramall Lane on Saturday and they know nothing less than three points will do. Check out the best betting odds ahead of kick-off and what great betting bonuses are on offer.
Our Betting Tip for Today- Ollie Watkins to score & Aston Villa to win @ 7/4 Copybet
Aston Villa will be hoping their midweek loss was just a blip. They are the favourites to win this game at 8/13. The Blades are the underdogs at 15/4 with the draw on offer at 16/5.
Ollie Watkins got himself on the score sheet against Newcastle United in their 3-1 defeat and was unlucky not to score a couple more. His running off the ball is sublime and he will cause the Sheffield United defence a whole host of problems.
That goal in midweek was the England international's first goal since December 17th, and I think that will spur him on to take his tally to 11 at Bramall Lane.
Villa will be too strong for the Blades. The home side will have plenty of vocal support, but that will not matter to Villa as I predict they will win quite comfortably.
