Sheffield United and Brighton go head to head in the Premier League on Sunday with both teams hoping to grab a valuable three points to mount a climb up the league table.
Prior to last weekend’s impressive 3-1 victory away at Kenilworth Road, Chris Wilder’s side had been on a run of seven Premier League games without victory, a run that has seen them rooted to the foot of the table.
The Blades head into this game with the second worst home form in the league, with only fellow promoted side Burnley picking up less points on home soil. Sunday’s game is a tough task for the strugglers as they face a Brighton side hoping to achieve back-to-back European place finishes.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side are known for their fast, free-flowing football that allows them to carve open sides with ease, particularly at home where they have tasted defeat just once this season. It is their form away from home that lets the Seagulls down, as they are without a win on the road in the Premier League since a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest back in November. The shining light for De Zerbi ahead of this weekend will be the fact that his side have already visited Bramall Lane this season and come away with a victory as these two sides met in the FA Cup fourth round.
As mentioned before, these two sides have already met at Bramall Lane this season, with the away side winning 5-2. The league meeting at the Amex however, saw a more balanced outcome with the teams playing out a 1-1 draw. In recent times, these two sides have met on five occasions in the Premier League, with three of those results being 1-1 draws and the other two results being 1-0 victories for Sheffield United, with one win at home and the other at The Amex. The Seagulls will be doing all they can to change that statistic and will take confidence from the FA Cup victory last month.
Despite what the head to head data shows, Brighton are a much stronger team than their opponents and come into this game on better form than the Blades. United will be full of confidence though from their win last time out but all signs point towards Brighton being too strong.
Backing a Brighton win for this one seems to be the most sensible option and on paper, it looks as though it could be a straightforward victory for the Seagulls should they be on form.
Looking at the stats and the form of both teams coming into this game, all signs point towards a Brighton victory. As mentioned previously, the Blades have been poor at home, picking up just two wins in their 12 games at Bramall Lane.
Additionally, they are also the lowest scorers in the whole of the Premier League, scoring just 12 goals, which is a total season average of one goal a game at home. The Seagulls have obviously been a mixed bag away from home this season but with Sunday’s game taking place at a ground where they have already picked up a win, they are in good stead.
However, despite Sheffield United's poor home goalscoring form, Brighton have conceded 25 goals in their 12 away games, scoring 17. All three of their away wins have seen BTTS, seeing at least four goals in all of them.
