Bottom of the league Sheffield United play host to Manchester United in the late kick off on Saturday and I think it could be a tighter game than what meets the eye based on the current form of the two sides. This being said Ladbrokes have priced up the home team as your 13/2 outsiders whilst Manchester United are strong in the market as the 2/5 favourites.
Neither team will be happy with the way they have performed so far this year and that could leave the door open for a shock result. I have some betting suggestions for this fixture, but let’s take a closer look at the two teams first off.
Sheffield United have struggled to get firing this season but they do play with enough flair to suggest they can get results when they put it all together. They have been very poor in midfield and are letting in too many goals for sure, but have played better football in their last two fixtures for the switch to 3-5-2. This has given them more stability and they have shown more of a threat in front of goal too. Despite defeat, the performance last week was a step back in the right direction and aren’t completely out of this.
Manchester United go in search of back to back wins for the first time this season as they face bottom ranked Sheffield United and they will be hard to beat, but have also been their own worst enemies at times this season. The game plan hasn’t been fully effective under Ten Hag and they have been quite vulnerable at the back too. They should have the firepower to beat Sheffield United here but they are going to need to remain fully focused for the entirety of the game. They don't want to drop points here.
If you are basing the chances of each side on the head to heads then Manchester United will be the clear winners here. Sheffield United did win at Old Trafford in 2021 however prior to that they haven’t had a result against Manchester United in the Premier League since 1992. This is a big ask for Sheffield United and they will do well to get anything from the game, but with the start they have had they will be able to give this a really good go this week.
On paper this looks a very one sided event, but stranger things do happen and as mentioned Sheffield United did start to look like they were playing better football last week and may be able to take advantage of a Manchester United team, who have at times looked vulnerable this season. Having weight up the two teams credentials, I have two betting suggestions for this fixture below and hopefully we can take some profit out of the game
I’ve taken a good look into both teams and I really want to take a chance at Sheffield United winning this at 13/2 but that may be just out of reach even if they put in a performance of the season, but with that being said, I do think they can get something out of this game. I am rather bullish that they will play some decent football against Manchester United this week who despite getting some results, have also looked vulnerable this season.
Sheffield United have only got the 1 point this season but I think they will double that tally with a strong performance here. The issue is, I can’t see Manchester United not scoring and think the result is going to be a score draw. The draw between these two is priced up at 15/4 which I think is where the value is this week, but on top of that, a 1-1 draw at 8/1 looks very tempting too. I think both teams share the spoils this week.
