It's an important clash for Serbia after their defeat to England. Slovenia performed well against Denmark in their 1-1 draw.
Slovenia performed well against an experienced Denmark side. They went behind relatively early but dug in and stayed in the contest. Erik Janza’s equaliser came with some luck, but they’ll take it. Serbia is up next as they meet in Munich.
Matjaz Kek’s men will be confident arriving here. It’s now seven without defeat, which includes victories over Portugal and the USA. Slovenia is well-coached. They’re an organised unit and have an upcoming superstar leading the line in Benjamin Sesko.
Zmajčeki hasn’t been involved in a 0-0 draw for 21 consecutive matches. Slovenia shouldn’t be underestimated in this encounter.
The opening encounter was a tough one for Serbia. It was arguably the dullest game of the opening round, which saw them lose narrowly to England. The clash was slow, with neither side risking all that much. Dragan Stojkovic’s men accumulated five shots that night but failed to create a big chance.
The Eagles have potential. It’s a squad with many impressive names. Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic pose a real threat in attack. They’re the tallest nation in the tournament. They’ll be desperate to use that to their advantage.
After an opening-round defeat, Serbia will be keen to get back to winning ways. They have plenty of experience on the biggest stage.
These two have met twice in recent years. Serbia defeated Slovenia 4-1 in the UEFA Nations League, this time two years ago. Aleksandar Mitrovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic both scored in that win. Four days later, they clashed again in Ljubljana. The match ended 2-2. I’m expecting another entertaining affair at the Allianz Arena.
Serbia will expect to have most of the possession. Finding the two target men in attack will be vital. The wingbacks in their 3-5-2 system will play an important role.
Slovenia knows that they can operate without the ball. We saw that in their draw with Denmark. If they keep themselves in the contest, then they have every chance of being awarded with a result.
With international encounters played far less than club football, statistics and form are rarely consistent. The teams have met two times in as many years, which gives us some understanding of how this match may play out.
Despite that, here are three interesting stats ahead of this Euro 2024 match between Slovenia vs Serbia
Despite a whole load of markets available for this clash, my selection is simple. Both sides can find the back of the net. BTTS – Yes is priced nicely, and I’m happy to base my bet on it.
Mitrovic, Vlahovic and Benjamin Sesko are the standout names. These three know where the back of the net is. I’m confident we’ll see goals on Thursday afternoon in Munich with both nations contributing. The price on BTTS – Yes is appealing and one I wouldn’t want to miss out on.
Slovenia has scored in 13 consecutive matches now. The last time they failed to score was over a year ago. Matjaz Kek’s side have scored in clashes with Portugal, Denmark x3 and the USA in that time. Confidence levels will be high. An impressive Slovenia performance here could have one foot in the knockout stage.
The fact that Serbia hasn’t been involved in a 0-0 draw for 40 games shows what they’re about. They’re strong offensively but maybe not too impressive in defence. In qualifying, they conceded against Bulgaria, Lithuania and Montenegro. Serbia have managed four clean sheets in their previous 19 matches.
BTTS – Yes at 1.91 (10/11) is my selection for this encounter. Both sides have more than enough to get themselves on the scoresheet. Here’s hoping the talented forwards bring their shooting boots.
