Having put ten goals past Northern Ireland and Andorra, both games provided the perfect morale booster for Spain prior to their EURO campaign kicking off. With just one defeat in their last ten (1-0 vs Colombia) there's no surprise to see Luis de la Fuente's side towards the top of the outright betting market.
However, wins over the likes of Georgia, Cyprus, Scotland and Norway are a world away from what Spain will need to beat to win the title this time round. The defeat to Colombia and 3-3 draw vs Brazil indicates they may not have it their own way against closely matched nations - including Croatia.
It may be now or never for Croatia if they are to win a title with the current squad. With the likes of Luka Modric (38), Ante Budimir (32), Marcelo Brozovic (31) and Andrej Kramaric (32) hurtling towards their final days as professional footballers, this could be the last time we see these names challenge together for a trophy.
Still, with a young, agile defence, Croatia will be quietly confident they can have a solid run in this competition and they've proven time and time again they can frustrate the best nations in Europe. Group B will be tough, but Croatia are certainly capable of qualifying to the knockout stage,
The last two head-to-heads between these two nations have required both extra time and penalties in order to separate them in both the Nations League and Euros. With both of these two nations heading into the competition with good form and high expectations, neither country will want to drop any points in round one of a challenging looking group.
With neither nation experiencing many losses in recent times, and with both running each other close, it doesn't appear to be a match which will see one side runaway with all three points. In the last meeting in the Nations League final, Spain only managed one shot on target across the 90 minutes.
A tasty looking opener in Group B appears to be a close match to call. However, with both sides drawing three of their nine head-to-heads, including the last two encounters, both might settle for a point.
Having failed to top their EURO qualification group, Croatia bounced back winning all four of their friendlies, whilst drawing with Tunisia in Cairo. Although three of the opponents weren't anywhere near Spain's high standard, a convincing 2-1 victory over Portugal caught the eye.
Spain will know how clinical Croatia can be, and are likely to remain cautious to any potential threats Croatia carry. Luis de la Fuente's team may have hammered Northern Ireland and Andorra of late, but their defeat to Colombia and 3-3 draw with Brazil shows their vulnerabilities within their defence.
In arguably one of the toughest groups at the EUROs, neither nation can afford any slip ups in the opening round. With both previous competitive head-to-heads requiring extra-time, it's perhaps worth backing the draw at a generous looking 12/5 with bet365 for both teams to walk away with a point apiece.
