Swansea City host Championship leaders West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, with the hosts themselves still harbouring hopes of finishing the season in the playoff positions. The Swans have been struggling for consistency over recent weeks, while the Baggies will be hoping to return to winning ways following their surprise defeat against Wigan last time out. Ahead of kick-off at the Liberty Stadium, we will provide a detailed match preview, along with our expert betting tip.
Swansea City Analysis
Coming into this weekend’s match sitting 9th in the standings, four points outside of the playoffs, Swansea City know that they must return to winning ways sooner rather than later if they are to have any chance of returning to the Premier League come the end of the season. The Swans and manager Steve Cooper have been boosted by the arrivals of Rhian Brewster and Conor Gallagher in January, with the former having now found the back of the net four times. The likes of Connor Roberts and Ben Wilmot are pushing for recalls this weekend, with manager Cooper having a near fully-fit squad to select from. It is in defence where Swansea have struggled so far this season, conceding 45 goals to date, including eight in their last four matches. The hosts will be looking to be far tighter against the Championship’s leading goalscorers this season.
West Bromwich Albion Analysis
West Brom were in action in midweek, with the Baggies having come unstuck against Premier League side Newcastle United in the FA Cup. As a result, manager Slaven Bilic could well make changes to his starting XI for their trip to Wales, with the likes of Filip Krovinović and Lee Peltier potentially being in line for recalls. The Baggies have scored an impressive 64 goals so far this season, conceding 37 in the process. The goals of Charlie Austin have certainly boosted West Brom’s promotion chase over recent weeks, with Bilic’s side having lost just one of their last five matches, coming at the Hawthorns against Wigan last weekend.
Head To Head Analysis
Swansea City will certainly be out for revenge this weekend, having been thrashed 5-1 at the Hawthorns earlier in the campaign, a match in which the Baggies had five different goalscorers. In fact, West Brom have won their last three matches against Swansea, matches which have all been in the second tier of English football. Swansea’s last win over West Brom came back in December 2017, when they ran out narrow 1-0 winners on home soil.
The Baggies Have the Edge over Recent Times
West Brom will certainly take heart from their recent results against the Swans, while their impressive form so far this season also makes backing the Championship leaders to claim all three points at odds of 2.15 from William Hill an attractive betting option. However, the fact that they have lost their last two matches in all competitions makes this a potentially risky bet.
