Despite defeat to England in the Euro 2022 semi finals, it has been an excellent couple of years for the Swedes. They qualified for the World Cup undefeated, although recent draws with Norway and Germany were slightly underwhelming.

An impressive win over Costa Rica in their final warm up game has raised hopes slightly, but prior to that the South Africans had been in terrible form, highlighted by a shocking 5-0 reverse to Botswana. Given the gulf in class between them and the rest of Group G, it is hard to make a case for them progressing.

Sweden and South Africa have played each other four times previously, with Sweden leading the head to head 3-0, with one draw. Most recently, they met in a 2019 friendly, which finished 0-0.
