For our midweek betting tip, we’re focusing on the second meeting between Jose’s rallying Spurs and Jurgen’s faltering Liverpool on Thursday night in North London.
Spurs have recently bounced back from their festive rough patch, having gone on a seven game unbeaten run that means they remain unbeaten in 2021. They sit just outside the top four, just two points behind West Ham and with two games in hand. There are potential problems at right back with Serge Aurier and his usual stand-in Matt Doherty both potentially ruled out, which leaves a gap to plug for Mourinho.
Liverpool’s losing run continued at the weekend with a 3-2 FA Cup loss to Manchester United. Despite this, however there were signs of the all-dominating Liverpool we came to know last season, with brace-scoring Mo Salah looking particularly sharp. The defense still remains a problem for Klopp, who is still having to alternate playing midfielders Milner, Henderson and Fabinho as center backs – therefore we can expect another makeshift defense on Thursday night.
The Reds have an excellent head to head record against Spurs, as they’ve won each of their last six games against the North London outfit. Tottenham haven’t managed to record a competitive win against Liverpool since a league win way back in 2013, and Klopp has only lost to Spurs once in his managerial career. Klopp has also had the better over Mourinho in his career, with a record of W6 D4 L2 over the Portuguese coach.
Spurs are definitely the in form team, but we saw enough of Liverpool on Sunday to convince us that they can deliver moment of quality on Thursday. Mourinho will set Spurs up well though, so our betting tip for Thursday night is to back a draw at odds of 13/5 with bet365.
