Tottenham hosts Champions League chasing Man City on Wednesday evening, where the hosts will be hoping to edge closer to top 10 after their 4-1 victory against Ipswich. Having lost three of their last five away games, Pep Guardiola has his work cut out if he is to close the gap on Nottingham Forest in 3rd spot.
Spurs showing improvement
There's no getting away from the fact Spurs have had a season to forget. But a significant amount of injuries has made life extremely difficult for Ange Postecoglou, who will be more frustrated than anyone with how the campaign has panned out.
However, Spurs head into this fixture with new-found confidence having recorded back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since round six - showing just how poor their campaign has been.
Yet ruthless against Ipswich and defensively resilient against Man United, Spurs will be hopeful of a positive result when the champions head to the capital.
Man City need results
Man City's inconsistence is what could cost them Champions League football. Although Pep Guardiola's side are sat in 4th, they are struggling to string more than two positive results together before falling to defeat.
They head into this clash on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool - their third defeat from their last five matches - who are still only four points clear of Brighton in 9th. The race for Europe is as tight as it has ever been.
Without Erling Haaland, they could be in trouble.
Tottenham away hasn't been a fixture Guardiola has relished since joining the Premier League. After five consecutive wins a in a row for the hosts between 2019 - 2023, Man City finally picked up a win in North London in the FA Cup the following year.
Last season they won their first Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since 2018, but Spurs returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory in the EFL Trophy.
Spurs have also been rather inconsistent at home. Although they've beaten Liverpool and Man United, they've also lost to Newcastle and Leicester. But with two wins from three against Man City this season, Postecoglou may be more confident than he's letting on.
Tottenham have always been a tricky fixture for Man City and that might be the case once again on Wednesday evening. The pressure is firmly on the visitors but without their leading talisman, it could be a struggle to claim all three points.
Hosts can frustrate once more
Man City have scored 52 Premier League goals this campaign. Erling Haaland has scored 19 of those, also contributing with three assists. But with the Norwegian expected to miss the trip to Spurs - as he did against Liverpool - this hands the advantage to the hosts.
Admittedly, Spurs haven't been reliable this season, but their finishing against Ipswich was rather impressive at the weekend. Man United may not be the team they once were, but to beat them to nil was also a positive step in the right direction.
It's also worth pointing out that Man City have the 10th best away record in the Premier League - picking up 18 points from a possible 39. And while Spurs haven't shown up at home, they know how to against the big clubs.
Having beaten Liverpool, Aston Villa, Man United, Brentford and Man City at home across various competitions, there's a lot to like about them getting something from the game. Throw in their 4-0 win at the Etihad earlier in the season, Spurs will be confident they can record a third victory against the champions this week.
Without Haaland, it's a difficult task for the visitors, and with that in mind, you can back Tottenham double chance at 4/5. This bet has landed in seven of their last 10 meetings at home. Good luck if you're following.
