With the final set of fixtures before a prolonged break, International football returns this week. This set of fixtures has major implications for which nations head to Qatar, so for today’s tip, we’re focusing on the fixture between Wales and Belarus at Cardiff City Stadium.
After an inconsistent beginning to qualification, Wales have had an impressive second-half to their qualifying campaign. They may have lost on the opening matchday, but Wales haven’t tasted defeat since and another victory against Belarus could mean qualification (depending on the results from the Czech Republic).
Sadly, Wales will be without David Brooks as he battles his long-term illness. However, Wales fans can be upbeat about the return of starman Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid forward should return after a hamstring problem and Aaron Ramsey should play despite being left out of Juventus’ squad due to ‘muscle fatigue’.
Belarus have had a very disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign. They had a perfect start with a 4-2 victory over Estonia on match day one. However, their weaknesses were amplified by an 8-0 defeat to Belgium and they haven’t secured a point since.
Head Coach Georgi Kondratiev has selected a relatively inexperienced squad heading into the final set of qualifiers. No player has more than 22 caps in the squad, and half the squad has under ten. Whilst defender Artyom Sokol could make his national team debut in this fixture.
This fixture has a very one-sided history. Wales have been victorious in four of the last five matches between the two but the game is usually goal-shy. However, this trend was buckedd when the two sides last met - a 3-2 thriller in Belarus.
Belarus are Group E’s whipping boys. They are bottom of the group, conceding 19 goals whilst having the group’s worst goal difference. Contrastingly Wales haven’t exactly been goalscoring machines. They have the same amount of goals as Estonia but are a strong defensive unit.
The history of this fixture suggests Wales will secure the victory. Wales are desperate for a victory because of the Czech’s better standing in the group. So, we’re predicting Wales to win, Gareth Bale to score, and both teams to score - NO with Netbet at 6/4.
