The Premier League continues this weekend with a fixture that has repercussions at both ends of the Premier League table. For today’s betting tip, we are focusing on the match between fifth-placed West Ham United and a resurgent Newcastle United at the London Stadium.
A late Craig Dawson goal ensured West Ham United made it two without defeat in the Premier League last weekend. Though unconvincing, the draw kept David Moyes’ side in fifth place ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Newcastle.
In addition, Moyes’ squad remains relatively untouched by injuries. Long term absentees Angelo Ogbonna and Arthur Masuaku are certain to miss the game, whilst the on-form Jarrod Bowen has recovered from his knock to play against Newcastle.
Newcastle United looked destined for the drop zone ahead of January. However, a little investment in the transfer market, and Eddie Howe’s tactics has lifted Newcastle out of the relegation zone and into 17th. Howe’s side are riding a five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, and they are the on-form team in the bottom half of the Premier League.
A key aspect to their turnaround has been Kieran Tripper. The former Spurs man scored in back-to-back victories for the Toon Army, but he is set for a spell on the side-line due to a broken foot.
The trajectory of both these sides couldn’t be more polarising in recent seasons. West Ham United have gone from relegation-threatened during most Premier League seasons to challenging for Europe in back-to-back seasons.
As for Newcastle, they’ve started heading for the drop zone in the past couple of years. But Newcastle’s record against West Ham is good. The Magpies have only lost once in the last six meetings between these two sides – a 4-2 loss at home in August 2021.
The five most recent results
West Ham haven’t been the impressive side they were back in the early portions of the campaign. They recently went on a two-game losing streak and had to rescue a draw against Leicester this past weekend. Therefore, we think the in-form Newcastle hold the Hammers to a point at the London Stadium. This is available with Ladbrokes at 29/10.
