The Premier League returns this weekend with West Ham United opening up at home against Champions League side Aston Villa.
Julen Lopetegui will be in charge of West Ham United for the first time in the Premier League after replacing David Moyes in the dugout.
Moyes stood down at the end of last season and former Wolverhampton Wanderers, Real Madrid and Sevilla manager Lopetegui has since taken over.
He has been busy in the transfer market with the likes of Luis Guilherme, Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez all joining him.
Aston Villa were the surprise package of the Premier League last season as they ended in fourth place to qualify for the Champions League.
Unai Emery has worked wonders at Villa Park since replacing Steven Gerrard as manager. It feels like he has a point to prove after a less than impressive spell at Arsenal.
Emery has lost the likes of Douglas Luiz, Moussa Diaby and Omari Kellyman, but he has replaced them with Cameron Archer, Ross Barkley, Samuel Iling-Junior, Jaden Philogene and Amadou Onana all coming in.
Aston Villa have struggled over the years when they have travelled to take on West Ham United. They have failed to claim three points since a 2-1 win with Gabriel Agbonlahor scoring a last minute winner.
It is difficult to predict the first game of a new season. Not everyone is 100% fit and some players have not done a full pre-season schedule, but I am backing the visitors in this game.
As already mentioned, history is not on their side but Villa are a different animal under Emery and they have enough quality to spoil Lopetegui’s first game in charge.
On their day, Aston Villa are capable of beating anyone. They proved that last season when they defeated Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. West Ham are a mixed bag, but it will be interesting how attacking they are with a new manager at the helm.
Opening weekend matches are the hardest to predict, but despite their poor form on the road I am backing Villa to win at London Stadium with both teams finding the back of the net.
Aston Villa have not had an easy time away at West Ham in the past 13 years, but there is something special about this side under Emery.
Ollie Watkins will be full of confidence after having a decent tournament with England at Euro 2024, and he could really make a name for himself this season.
If he is fully fit, he could be a real weapon for Villa in the opening weeks of the campaign as all the teams try to find their feet.
I am expecting goals in this game. Back both teams to find the back of the net with the away side getting home with a winner late in the second half. This outcome can be backed at 10/3 with Bet365.
