This summer, football fever is sweeping across Europe as fans flock to the roaring stadiums of Germany for one of the most anticipated sports events of the year: the UEFA European Championship. For football enthusiasts from all corners, that means it's time to dust off the nail-biting routine. But besides checking all the Euro 2024 betting sites and biting our nails, what else are we sinking our teeth into? Betting carried out a survey of 5,000 respondents from all participating countries, inquiring about their favourite match day snacks and drinks.

Some of the results:

  • Crisps are without a doubt Europe's favourite match day snack, followed by popcorn in second place, and nachos coming in third.
  • Spain stands out as the only country where nachos are the preferred match day snack. Supporters from Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria favour popcorn during the game.
  • Beer takes the top spot as the most popular drink during Euro 2024, followed by soda and water.

Crisps are the top choice snack

While we're waiting to see who will be the top scorers of Euro 2024, it doesn't require any football betting tips to know who the stars of the snack table are. We asked respondents from Euro participating countries what they prefer munching on while watching a match. It seems Europe is quite aligned on this: crisps are the clear favourite. Popcorn and nachos also make the top three. Rounding out the top five are pizza and guacamole with tortilla chips. Outside the top five, chicken wings, hot dogs, fruit/veggie platters, pretzels, and cheese fall into positions 6 through 10.

Spain favours nachos for match day snacking

Despite crisps taking the lead, there are distinct preferences by country. Spain stands out as the only country where nachos are the top choice for match day snacking. In Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, popcorn takes the lead as the favourite game-time snack.

What do we prefer to drink during the match?

Our research didn't just focus on match day snacks; we also asked respondents about their go-to drinks during Euro 2024. This summer, it's clear that beer is flowing abundantly across Europe. It's the top choice when asked what we like to sip while watching the games. Soda comes in a close second for quenching our thirst, just ahead of the healthiest option in the top 10: water.

Lemonade and fruit juice are also beloved choices, coming in at positions 4 and 5 respectively. Wine narrowly misses the top 5, alongside energy drinks and tea (both sharing the seventh spot). Finally, coffee takes the 9th spot, with gin & tonic rounding out the top 10.

Belgians prefer soda over beer

Belgian supporters of the Red Devils prefer non-alcoholic beverages, our study shows. The majority of Belgian respondents opt for soda during the Euro. The same goes for Denmark, Slovakia, and Hungary. Cheers to that!

Methodology

In May 2024, we conducted an independent survey of 5,000 respondents across all participating countries in the UEFA European Championship. The average age of the respondents was 40.3 years old. Due to insufficient data, specific breakdowns for Albania, Georgia, Romania, Serbia, Türkiye, and Ukraine were excluded.
