The Premier League is back and Pep Guardiola’s Man City take on Wolves at Molineux on Saturday evening in front of the Sky Sports cameras. Although several new faces have walked through the doors, Vitor Pereira has made it public knowledge his squad needs more signings to be competitive this season.

Wolves look short

After failing to win any of their last four Premier League matches, Wolves didn’t muster up a win during pre-season, either. Their last win came back in April against relegated Leicester City - and Wolves fans are rightly concerned ahead of the new season.

Matheus Cunha has moved on - and although there’s a few new signings in the door - there’s been too many that have left. They did, however, snap up forward Jorgen Strand Larsen after a successful loan spell, while Fluminense’s Jhon Arias has FPL players very intrigued.

But Pereira needs more bodies in the door if Wolves are to be successful this campaign. The Portuguese has indicated he’d have liked more in by now - and they may struggle in the opening rounds.

Man City prepped and ready

Guardiola’s new-look side showed glimpses of promise at the Club World Cup before crashing out against Al-Hilal - but by getting their business done earlier than most in the window may be what puts them ahead in the opening weeks of the season.

Man City rallied well towards the end of the last campaign, and it might just be time to jump back on their train after a disappointing period. The return of Rodri will be a major boost - as Man City look a different animal with the Spaniard in the side - and if the new signings gel, their decline may be rather short-lived.

They may still be lacking a few faces to take them back to their previous dizzy heights, but Guardiola has stayed - and clearly believes there is more to come from his squad.

Last season Man City secured two narrow victories over Wolves - including a 2-1 win at Molineux in round eight. Wolves hadn’t won by that point in the season, and despite Larsen opening the scoring, a 95th minute goal from John Stones saw Man City leave with all three points. Guardiola’s side have enjoyed their visits to Molineux, winning four of the last five, and they appear to have caught them at the right time this season as well.

As mentioned, Man City showed plenty of promise at the Club World Cup - especially their 5-2 win against Juventus. Whoever they faced, Guardiola’s side looked sharp in front of goal - even in their 4-3 defeat against Al Hilal.

Erling Haaland has scored four goals in his last five matches, and there’s no doubt the Norwegian will be hoping to win back his golden boot from Mo Salah this season. Very much the main man for Man City, Guardiola must do his best to keep the 25-year-old fit.

The additions of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders will help fill the void left by Kevin de Bruyne, but unlike Wolves, Man City has so much depth, and are rather spoilt for choice as the new season begins.
