World Cup Betting Tips Today: Predictions & Best Bets for July 4th

The knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup continue on Saturday where France will look to stride into the round of 16 against Paraguay. But will the South Americans spring another surprise after dumping Germany out? The later kick-off sees co-hosts Canada take on AFCON champions Morocco who have been rather impressive in the early stages of the competition.

Paraguay vs France

France have been flawless at the World Cup. There's no other way of looking at it. Dominant in the group and then barely flinched nor shifted out of second gear as they put three past Sweden all whilst keeping a clean sheet.

Although far from a one man team, Kylian Mbappe's contribution (six goals) has been a major factor for why the French have been so rampant in front of goal. With six goals and two assists, he's not only chasing the golden boot but also the golden ball.

However, there's more important factors to worry about than individual awards and Didier Deschamps will have his team ready to win their fifth straight match at this World Cup.

Paraguay surprised almost everyone beating Germany on penalties - their biggest result in their World Cup history. Defensively, they know how to dig in and make life very tough for their opponents.

However, France are a different beast, and Paraguay's - albeit defiant back line - may not be able to deal with the pace and power of their opponents. Left-back Diego Alonso is 33, as is centre-back Gustavo Gomez, and both lack half a yard against a normal, strong forward, let alone Ousmane Dembele and Mbappe.

Germany struggled to find a plan b, but France have so much depth on the bench they can rotate and remain just as strong, which is why they are the clear favourites to come out on top. Can anyone stop Mbappe? It doesn't look likely - and Paraguay's time in the World Cup may just come to an end here.

With that in mind, I'm sticking up France to win and Mbappe to score at 4/5 with BetMGM.

Canada vs Morocco

Canada edged past South Africa in stoppage time in the round of 32, winning only their second ever World Cup match. Stephen Eustaquio's late winner saved Canada having to endure extra time, unlike their next opponents, but there's a vast difference in terms of quality between the two nations.

Morocco deservedly came out on top of their match against the Netherlands. Although the match went to penalties, Morocco were strong across the 120 minutes and dominated possession. The main complaint would be that Morocco don't always take their chances, but they also create plenty against those ranked lower than them.

The pure pace and intensity that they play with has been frightening at times. It caught Brazil off guard in round one, Scotland couldn't live with it and Haiti ended up conceding four. And after beating the Dutch, the 2022 semi-finalists will be extremely confident against Canada.

Why? Well aside from being better man for man and tactically stronger, this is the first time Canada won't play in their own nation. The game is going to be held in Houston, Texas, and their "home advantage" will be reduced for this fixture.

Canada have also had an easier run thus far, yet have still failed to beat Bosnia (1-1) and lost to a Switzerland side (2-1) that hasn't been all that convincing to date. If Morocco approach this game on the front foot and can sustain that pressure to sneak ahead, Canada are going to find it very difficult to breach their defence which has been rather resilient all World Cup.

This looks to be a step too far for the co-hosts, who were expected to bow out at this stage of the tournament.
