When is the World Cup Round of 16?

The World Cup Round of 16 2026 takes place entirely through four days of action from the 4th to the 7th July, after the round of 32 as it is an extended tournament this year. It's at this stage of the World Cup that we start to get an idea on which teams are favourites to go deep. The fixtures will be included once we know the full schedule.

July 4th, 2026

• The winners of matches 74 and 77 will take place at the Lincoln National Field in Philadelphia.
• The winners of games 73 and 75 will do battle at the NRG Stadium in Houston.

July 5th, 2026

July 7th, 2026

• The winners of games 85 and 87 battle it out at BC Place in Vancouver.

This follows the Round of 32, which will take place from the 29th June to the 3rd July 2026. Beyond the Round of 16 World Cup 2026 fixtures will be the World Cup Quarter-finals, which will take place on the 9th and 10th July. If you can still bet on some of the smaller teams in the quarter-finals World Cup betting markets they will have had a good tournament.

The semi-finals World Cup odds will be available before the matches held on the 14th and 15th of July. After that there’s also a Third-place play-off on the 18th July.

And of course, all this leads to the World Cup finals, where history will be made on the 19th July 2026 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey..

How does the World Cup Round of 16 work?

Unlike the round-robin group stage of the tournament, the World Cup Round of 16 follows a knock-out format. In other words, there must be a winner. Extra time and penalty shootouts will be used if necessary.

The team that loses is eliminated from the tournament, while the winners move from 16 to eight remaining teams in the Quarter-finals.
