World Cup favourites Spain face Cape Verde in their curtain raiser at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta. Saudi Arabia will look to beat another South American nation at a World Cup when they face Uruguay in Miami Gardens, Florida, before facing Spain in Atlanta and travelling to Texas to take on Cape Verde.
Spain and Uruguay will travel over the border to face each other in their group game in Zapopan at Estadio Akron - a match that could be set up to decide who wins Group H.
Nathan Joyes will be providing World Cup betting tips throughout the tournament and is on hand to talk us through an intriguing group with four very different sides taking each other on.
Spain are the favourites to win the World Cup and therefore shouldn’t have too many difficulties in Group H. Luis de la Fuente’s side haven’t lost since 2024 - at the time against a Colombian outfit that were arguably the best performing nation in the world.
Qualification couldn’t have been easier. Five wins, one draw, 21 goals and only two conceded. It’s safe to say it’s going to take a lot to beat Spain this summer.
From front to back, this is a squad stacked with quality. A centre-back pairing of Real Madrid’ Dean Huijsen and Atletico’s Robin Le Normand have the pace and intelligence to marshall Unai Simon protecting the goal, while the likes of Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo and Neco Williams need no introductions.
Spain clearly feel confident heading into the World Cup. With just one more warm up friendly at the start of June against Peru, de la Fuente knows everything about his players and what they are capable of - it’s now up to them to go and deliver.
La Celeste under Marcelo Bielsa will always be an intriguing opponent but Uruguay’s form hasn’t been great. A last gasp penalty saw them somehow walk away with a point against England, before drawing 0-0 with Algeria four days later.
A heavy 5-1 defeat against USA alongside another goalless draw vs Mexico won’t have filled supporters with much hope, who have only beaten Venezuela, Peru, Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan since the start of 2025.
If Uruguay are to have a successful tournament, Bielsa will need to find a way for his midfield to not only defend but create. Federico Valverde, Manuel Ugarte. Nicolas de la Cruz and Girogian da Arrascaeta are players who can step up and perform - but elsewhere La Celeste are lacking match winners.
Darwin Nunez is capable of being a threat, yet his limited game time at Al Hilal means the former Liverpool striker arrives not in the greatest form.
Cape Verde have qualified for their first ever World Cup and they will be sure to soak up every minute - but they may only get around 360 minutes - and perhaps out by 180.
The Blue Sharks topped their World Cup qualifying group by four points, finishing above Cameroon. But their group, consisting of Libya, Angola, Mauritius and Eswatini, wasn’t exactly strong.
Since, they have failed to beat Egypt, Iran, Finland and Chile in friendlies and the recent FIFA Series inside 90 minutes - and their lack of “stars” may see Spain and Uruguay brush them to one side with little to no issues.
Their captain, Ryan Mendes (36), plays in the second tier in Turkey. Daikon Livramento, has failed to score for Casa Pia this season, although Willy Semedo has bagged 17 in 26 for Omonia in Greece.
But there’s simply too much for him to do on his own, and it’s those in behind that may struggle at this level. It’s one hell of an achievement for them to be here, but Cape Verde will do well to challenge in this difficult group.
Everyone recalls Saudi Arabia’s incredible win against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup but plenty has changed since then. Roberto Mancini has come and gone and now Georgios Donis has taken on his first international post after several years managing in the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia finished behind Japan and Australia in their qualifying group yet finished high enough to have another opportunity in the fourth stage of qualifying. A narrow win over Indonesia and draw against Iraq was enough to book their spot this summer - but performances will need to improve if they are to be successful.
A 4-0 defeat against Egypt and 2-1 loss against Serbia showed their limitations further against stronger nations than those they managed to beat in the last 12 months - and a swift exit is expected this time round.
They will have their opportunity to shine against another South American side on the greatest stage of all but lightning doesn’t often strike twice.
Group winner: Spain 2/9 with Betfred
There’s no wizardry calling Spain to finish on top but there really isn’t any competition in Group H and the Spaniards are clear favourites with bookmakers for the World Cup. Uruguay are certainly not the force of old and head into the World Cup with their own issues, while both Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia wouldn’t be here without the expansion of the tournament.
The group is set up for Spain and Uruguay to clash in round three - arguably for top spot - but de la Fuente’s men will have too much class and they’ll arguably win this group with maximum points and three potential clean sheets in the process.
Qualifiers: Uruguay 1/5 with Betfred
This group isn’t competitive as others and Bielsa’s side should at least qualify with six points to their name. Anything less will put El Loco under pressure to keep his job long term.
However, we have seen what Uruguay can do on their day. During the World Cup qualifiers, Bielsa masterclassed an away win against Argentina before a home victory against Brazil. They only narrowly lost in the Copa America semi-final 1-0 against Colombia back in the summer of 2024 as well.
The squad has since failed to live up to that kind of form, but on occasions, they have shown glimpses of what they can do. Nicolas de la Cruz getting fit will be a huge advantage for them in the middle of the park, and although not expected to go far in this tournament, should join Spain without too many issues.
Longshot team to watch: Saudi Arabia
With three potential nations qualifying from Group H, we have to explore the possibility of either Saudi Arabia or Cape Verde qualifying with three points - but it’s the slightly more experienced nation that might nab that all important win.
Saudi Arabia have been there and done it - albeit under a different head coach - but they have match winners against similar squads within their ranks that could get them another big win this summer.
Goal difference could come into it, and both Spain and Uruguay could score plenty against Saudi Arabia, but there’s always hope when Salem Al Dawsari is on the pitch - who will enter the World Cup with over 20 goal contributions for Al Hilal this season. If you're lookng to place an outside bet with one of your World Cup betting offers, then Saudi Arabia to qualify could be a good choice.
