World Cup Accumulator Tips

Tuesday brings the final two round-of-16 ties at the World Cup, and while the overall calibre of the teams may not quite match the previous few days, the knockout stage has already shown that reputations count for very little.

Argentina have already seen fellow South American giants Brazil crash out to Norway, with Erling Haaland scoring twice to dump out the five-time world champions and set up a quarter-final against England.

The reigning champions nearly suffered an even bigger shock themselves in the previous round. Lionel Messi's opener against Cape Verde looked set to pave the way for a routine victory, but Deroy Duarte levelled just before the hour and suddenly Argentina were in real trouble.

Lisandro Martinez restored their lead early in extra time, only for Sidny Lopes Cabral to produce one of the goals of the tournament and force Argentina to find another response. They eventually scraped through in the second period of extra time, but there was enough vulnerability on show to suggest Egypt can cause them problems in Atlanta.

The Pharaohs are still unbeaten in North America and arguably produced their best football against Belgium. They've looked less convincing when expected to dominate games, but that won't be the case here.

Colombia have quietly been one of the tournament's most impressive teams. They've conceded just once in four matches, outplayed Portugal in the group stage and then controlled much of their victory over Ghana in the round of 32.

They start as favourites against Switzerland, although Murat Yakin's side have grown into the competition after a shaky start and should provide another stern test.

The shocking draw with Qatar in their first group game feels like a long time ago, and the Swiss possess the quality and know-how to keep this run going in North America.

Throughout this tournament, football tipster Ben Smith has been producing our World Cup 2026 betting tips and previews with a BetMGM acca each day. Selections are centred around player props, team cards, corners, and other stat-based selections rather than the match odds. Below you’ll find picks from both of Tuesday’s contests.

Argentina v Egypt - Lionel Messi to Score and Emam Ashour Over 1.5 Shots (3/1)

Everything Argentina do still revolves around Messi. He's averaging 6.75 shots and 4.22 shots on target per 90 minutes at this World Cup, and against this calibre of opposition there's little reason to think those numbers will suddenly drop. Egypt face a huge task keeping him quiet, and I'd back him to move clear in the Golden Boot race.

The Pharaohs should have opportunities of their own, though. Mohamed Salah may not be fully fit and Omar Marmoush has yet to really hit his stride, but Emam Ashour has been a revelation.

The Al Ahly midfielder announced himself with a stunning goal against Belgium before finding the net again in the round-of-32 win over Australia. He's had 10 shots across the tournament and has cleared the 1.5 line in three of his four starts, the exception coming when he was substituted at half-time.

Ashour is always willing to back himself. He gets into good shooting positions, isn't afraid to pull the trigger from range, and if Egypt are to spring a surprise, there's every chance he'll be at the heart of it.

Switzerland v Colombia - Breel Embolo and Johan Manzambi to Score or Assist (9/1)

This exact bet landed at 5/1 as part of my July 2nd acca and I'm happy to back it again here, even against stronger opposition, especially at a bigger price.

Switzerland are 1/2 to score against Colombia, and if they do, Breel Embolo and Johan Manzambi look the most likely players to be involved.

Embolo has registered a goal or assist in all four World Cup matches, while Manzambi has produced three goal involvements across his two starts, plus another two in his substitute appearance against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The pair have quickly developed an excellent understanding, and with Switzerland looking well balanced throughout the side, they should get the platform to combine in the final third once again.

Accumulator Odds 39/1

Argentina's quarter-final place looks far from guaranteed after the scare against Cape Verde, and Egypt have enough attacking quality to play their part in a proper contest.

The second game is a tough one to call, so I'm happy sticking with the Switzerland partnership that has already delivered in a previous acca. If Embolo and Manzambi continue their excellent understanding, they may well be able to take their place in the quarter-finals for the first time since 1954.

These selections make a 39/1 acca with BetMGM.
