World Cup Accumulator Tips

The biggest World Cup in history gets underway on Thursday as 48 nations begin their bid for glory across Mexico, Canada and the USA. The expanded format brings 12 groups instead of eight and an extra knockout round, meaning more matches, more betting opportunities and over a month of action before the final in New York on July 19.

Throughout the tournament, our 2026 World Cup betting tips expert Ben Smith will provide a World Cup acca each matchday, focusing on side markets rather than traditional match result and total goals bets. Odds used will be from BetMGM, one of the best World Cup betting sites. Expect player props, shots, cards and stats-based selections designed to find value away from the obvious angles.

There are only two games on opening day before the schedule steps up to four matches per day from Saturday onwards. Co-hosts Mexico have been given the honour of kicking off the tournament in Mexico City against South Africa, and they could hardly have asked for a better Group A setup either, playing all three group games on home soil where altitude, heat and a vocal crowd should work in their favour. They also arrive having dominated the region in recent years, winning the last two Gold Cups and adding the Nations League title in 2025.

Mexico v South Africa - Jesus Gallardo Over 1.5 Fouls (12/5)

South Africa’s game is based on getting forward quickly and making life uncomfortable in wide areas. They play with intensity, use their athleticism well and look to turn defensive situations into attacks at pace. Full-backs Khuliso Mudau and Aubrey Modiba are key to that approach, regularly overlapping to create overloads and put opposition defenders under pressure.

That could make for a difficult evening for Mexico left-back Jesus Gallardo, who is likely to spend large periods dealing with Mudau and Relebohile Mofokeng combining down that side. Between them, the South African pair draw more than three fouls per 90 minutes, while Gallardo is averaging close to two fouls committed per 90 across club and international football.

With that matchup in mind, 12/5 looks generous for Gallardo to commit two or more fouls. It’s a line he has cleared in each of the last three internationals where he has played more than 75 minutes.

Mexico v South Africa - Cesar Montes Over 0.5 Shots (4/5)

It’s not always obvious how Mexico manager Javier Aguirre will set his side up. He has experimented with several different systems in recent months and, with injuries forcing changes to personnel, there’s every chance we see more than one tactical approach used across the tournament.

One thing that should remain unchanged, though, is the presence of Cesar Montes. Standing at 6 ft 5 in, the centre-back is Mexico’s biggest aerial weapon and looks their most likely route to creating chances from set pieces.

Montes averaged 0.9 shots per 90 minutes across club and international football during the 2025/26 season. His attacking output has generally been better with Lokomotiv Moscow than for Mexico, but this feels like the type of game that could suit him. Few goals are expected, and with the match likely to be tight, dead-ball situations may prove decisive.

South Korea v Czechia - Pavel Sulc Over 0.5 Shots on Target (Evens)

Pavel Sulc is the creative focal point of this Czechia side, but he offers far more than just chance creation. Equally capable of scoring as he is of setting others up, he’s become one of their main attacking outlets.

His move from the Czech First League to Ligue 1 proved to be a smooth transition, with Sulc registering 11 league goals in 27 appearances for Lyon during the 2025/26 campaign.

That return was built on consistent shot volume, averaging 2.26 attempts and 0.94 shots on target per game across all competitions. He has been used off the left in Czechia’s recent matches, a role that allows him to drift into central areas and get efforts away. In the decisive playoff win over Denmark, he produced two shots on target, including a brilliant strike from the edge of the box, which opened the scoring.

South Korea v Czechia - Patrick Schick to Score Anytime (11/5)

While Sulc may be Czechia’s most technically gifted player, Patrik Schick remains their most reliable route to goal.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward announced himself on the major tournament stage by finishing as joint-top scorer at Euro 2020 with five goals. Injury disrupted both the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and Euro 2024, but since then he has put together two outstanding seasons, returning 31 and 24 goals respectively.

Schick looks primed for another big tournament, and he can kickstart it against this vulnerable South Korea defence.

Accumulator Odds 51/1

These may not turn out to be the most entertaining games, with under 2.5 goals heavily fancied in both matches, but there are still angles worth attacking.

South Africa’s direct, high-speed style should create plenty of defensive work for Mexico, especially down Gallardo’s side, and that makes his fouls line stand out as one of the stronger prices on the coupon. BetMGM’s 12/5 for two or more fouls looks bigger than it should be given the profile of the matchup and his recent numbers for club and country.

Montes’ aerial threat and Czechia’s attacking quality complete the bet, with Sulc and Schick both capable of obliging.

All four selections combine for 51/1 with BetMGM and offer a nice way to attack day one of the World Cup.
