Day nine of the 2026 World Cup continues the second round of group fixtures and we are starting to move beyond first impressions into matches that can shape the tournament.

Throughout the event, Ben Smith will provide our World Cup betting tips and previews in the form of a daily acca using BetMGM odds, focusing on player and team statistics, disciplinary markets, shots and other alternative angles rather than traditional match betting.

Friday’s card features several teams whose opening performances gave plenty to think about. The USA made one of the strongest starts of the tournament, Morocco emerged with credit despite not beating Brazil and Turkey will feel they deserved more than they got from their opener.

The evening starts in Seattle as co-hosts the USA face Australia before attention switches to Scotland against Morocco in Foxborough. Brazil then meet Haiti in Philadelphia before Turkey and Paraguay round off the action in Santa Clara.

With one game already played and another to come, there is a little more context to work with than there was earlier in the week.

USA v Australia - Malik Tillman to Give an Assist (33/10)

Malik Tillman has become one of the USA’s most reliable creators, producing five assists across his last nine international appearances, including setting up Folarin Balogun in Friday’s 4-1 win over Paraguay.

The underlying numbers suggest that such a return is no coincidence. No American averages more key passes per 90 under Mauricio Pochettino than the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder at 2.43, and his recent chance creation has been particularly impressive, producing 3, 3, 2, 2, 3 and 6 chances in his latest outings.

The USA look deserved favourites against an Australia side who may have ridden their luck in beating Turkey after being outshot 30-9.

Expect the hosts to spend plenty of time in advanced areas, and Tillman looks overpriced to register another assist.

Scotland v Morocco - Over 14.5 Morocco Shots (17/20)

Morocco were impressive for long spells against Brazil and looked the better side early on. They struck first and created plenty before Brazil responded before the break and eventually took control after half-time changes.

What stood out most though was Morocco’s approach. There was no interest in sitting back despite the calibre of opposition. They managed 12 shots in the first half against Brazil and had shown similar attacking intent in their final warm-up against Norway, producing nine efforts before the interval.

Haiti also found ways to create against Scotland and finished with 15 shots in that match. Given the volume Morocco have been generating and their willingness to attack, it would be no surprise to see them post a similar total here.

Brazil v Haiti - Carlens Arcus Over 2.5 Fouls (17/10)

The defeat to Scotland leaves Haiti in a difficult position because, realistically, that game always looked like the one likely to decide who stayed alive in the group.

What they cannot be accused of is a lack of intent. Haiti finished with 15 shots against the Scots and perhaps more interestingly committed 23 fouls in the process.

That second angle appeals again here with Brazil expected to dominate possession. They drew 14 fouls against Morocco and have several players who are excellent at inviting contact. Vinicius Junior stands out, averaging 2.37 fouls won per 90 across the 2025/26 season and drawing two against Morocco.

He should spend plenty of time up against Haiti right-back Carlens Arcus, who commits more fouls than any of his teammates at 2.11 per 90. That matchup looks capable of generating repeated free-kicks and three infringements feels achievable at the price.

Turkey v Paraguay - Under 3.5 Shots on Target (7/10)

There was not much to like about Paraguay’s opening performance against the USA. They were second best throughout, trailed 3-0 by half-time and barely improved after the break, managing just one shot on target while seeing only 42% of the ball in the second half.

Overall, they finished with 35% possession, nine shots and only a single effort on target, with the 4-1 scoreline not flattering the hosts.

Turkey’s defeat felt very different. Results-wise it was disappointing given expectations, but the performance was far more encouraging. They controlled 72% possession, had 30 shots and generated close to two expected goals against Australia.

A similar pattern could emerge here. Turkey should control the game and limit Paraguay’s opportunities, and when those chances do arrive, I’m not convinced Paraguay have the quality to consistently test the goalkeeper.

Friday’s acca is built around attacking output and individual matchups. Tillman continues to create chances for the USA, Morocco look capable of producing another high shot count, Arcus has a difficult assignment against Brazil’s strongest dribbler and Turkey should keep Paraguay’s opportunities to a minimum.
